I am Dr Sanjay Gupta. I am a Consultant heart specialist in York, UK and I believe that high quality reliable jargon-free information about health should be available at no cost to everyone in the world.
Through my RUclips channel, I want to engage, educate and empower patients to take control of their health by addressing their lifestyles and preventing disease from happening in the first instance.
Most of all, i want people to stop being fearful and anxious about their health by getting them to focus on improving their quality of life and living fearlessly.

The Third way
Просмотров 24 тыс.2 месяца назад
The only bit about the health care industry which lives up to its name is "industry" - The NHS is arrogant, sluggish and views the patient as a data set. The Private sector on the other views the patient as a cash cow. There is a desperate need for a 3rd way.
Ageing, blood pressure (and a glove)
Просмотров 33 тыс.4 месяца назад
Our Blood pressure changes as we get older. Unfortunately doctors are now care more about following guidelines and less about treating the individual. There is something inherently illogical about treating a 90 year old with a BP of 150/90 in the same way as a 20 year old with a BP of 150/90. The benefits are less and the risk of harm is greater. Here i explain how our BP changes as we get older.
Isolated Diastolic Hypertension

A patient recently contacted me for some advice. Over the past few weeks, whenever he had his blood pressure measured by his doctor, his top number (the systolic pressure) was normal at 120 mmHg but his lower number (the diastolic pressure) was elevated at 95mmHg. His doctor was now pressurising him to take medications to lower his diastolic pressure. My patient was unkeen to take medications b...

ECTOPIC HEART BEATS - COULD THEY BE DAMAGING MY HEART?
Просмотров 37 тыс.7 месяцев назад
Can ectopic heart beats, PVCs and PACS damage the heart? Today I wanted to do a video to hopefully reassure patients why ectopic beats do not cause damage to the heart. The heart is a pump and its role is to get oxygen rich blood to our organs. To function most effectively as a pump the heart has to beat at a certain optimal rate and in a regular rhythm. If the heart goes too slow or too fast i...

Thank you for your knowledge and time it means alot .
Thank you, thank you! I am 78 and had start when I was early 50's. I know anxiety was cause. Saw a good family doc, tests, med for awhile. It went away. Had in my 60's when husband dying. It went away. Now my 10-yr-old grandson has this. You have given me this to show him. We are checking it out, but he needs comfort. He is very intelligent and sensitive like his grandfather. We are close and he told me this quietly. His mom & I talked later. He is being treated for anxiety. So many of our young ones have problems. Again, thank you for quietly giving a good explanation. Even a child can understand.
Thank you so much for this video. I was literally just laying here listening to and feeling my irregular heartbeat and praying to God to fix my heart for my daughters sake. I was wondering all these things and getting anxiety. It’s like you’re answering my exact questions. Thank you so much for all the detail.
I have it no matter what i do and all my tests are fine due for a treadmill test soon
I needed to hear this! Thank you
I have been getting this a lot 5 months post ablation when lay on my left . Getting a stress test and echo in 2 weeks. Does anyone else get this a lot when laying on left side?
Mines ‘low’ ‘narrow’ my blood pressure is dead in the middle of the healthy ranges. Im 32 and female and my BP is around 104/70… is this concerning? I have health anxiety and now seeing this I’m worried sick for me health!

Can prolonged use of a particular beta blocker lead to development of tolerance?

Just wish this was my cardiologist! Why has this never been explained to me before! It just makes so much sense! I have Thalasaemia And I am blood transfusion dependent and I have various other problems! I for a while has massive iron overload and my heart and liver was saturated with iron! This of course damages the myocardium and causes problems with the ion channels in the heart. Eventually leading to myocardial side Rosis and I have developed palpitations! I worked tirelessly to get rid of the iron in my heart with chelation therapy and on my cardiac mri my heart was ok but I have developed palpitations that are scary ! Terrifying infact and some are very short lived and I have never had this explanation! It’s ironic that after seeing the doctors I have seen and always being told not to look things up on the internet that it’s the interest where I have found real ease of mind ! Thank you very much for the videos! I would also be really grateful if you could possibly drop me an email in relation to he Zio patch. If you offer it as a private exam I would be incredibly interested. Kind regards.
Hi my 22year old has heart rate goes from 89 to 107 keeps going up and down with machine on thumb. Can you please advise
Thank you for explaining this I'm getting ready to get it done.
Fix the CC which shows hyperthyroid whereas topic is hypothyroid and enunciate more markedly when specifying the disorder
I AM SO GLAD I WATCHED YOUR VIDEO. THE INFORMATION OUT THEIR FROM RUclips AND DOCTOR CLIENTS ARE SO MISLEADING. THEY WILL GIVE YOU A HEART ATTACK. I'M 65 WITH AFIB & SLOW HEART BEATS AT REST APPROX 45 BPM. NOT DIZZY ARE BLACKOUTS EVER. THANKS FOR YOUR POST.
Confusing and contradicting. Afib is a factor that will increase the risk of stroke. Why denying it?
Thanks very much.
Omg this has helped so much ! I was just told I have to see a vascular specialist because of build up of plague in one of my arteries… had a CABG 3 1/2 years ago . This will help with what they throw at me next . Thank you
Does an ekg reading ever indicate a stress test is needed? I had s strss test 7 years ago and passed it. I had an echo test recently because of my legs were swelling. I past that one too but they found some blood clots. I'm on blood thinners now. Can you have a good heart but still prone to blood clots?
Dr. Gupta!!! I found one of your videos last year and in an act of desperation, I found a drip IV spa and even though it cost me so much more money than I had to spend, it was worth every penny! I went 1 x a week for 2 months and now go once every month or two and I can honestly say…. It has given me my life back!!!! Placebo or not. I am back to working full time, and while I still have some of the basic POTS symptoms I have not had a major exacerbation since last October!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ Thank you so much for your compassion, knowledge, and willingness to be present for your patients. You saved my quality of life!!!
What about B-12 deficiency and Iron anemia? These both affect oxygen levels.
I've learned a lot from your videos. Especially some of your "white coat syndrome" videos. Thanks for all your effort in creating such important content.
Can this connection gastric...vagus..cardiac... cause very high, 220+systolic bp..?
I love your videos, I spoke to my primary a few months back and mentioned your videos. He has not suggested medication for me because he considered that I do not need to be on medication that my blood pressure is not really high and its mostly caused by my anxiety. Well, this year for my follow-up and I showed my concern the fact I did not do ok with the beta blocker for anxiety. He suggested to see a cardiologist. I had a nuclear stress test which I almost cancelled, an EKG and echo everything was great, my pressure is normally 110/83, sometimes higher like 110/86 or 114/89 I am still not on medicine. My doctor agreed that I could continue to work on eating cleaner which I been doing for a few years, I am not overweigth, I am 42 years old.
I had a high BNP, got an echocardiogram and had an EF of 45% which apparently is normal. This talk made no mention of an increase in the average BNP with age.
So sorry. You are so blessed to have had someone like that in your life.
Thankyou sir..love from India..facing skipping heartbeats like bubbles in cheast/heart and pulse ...it happens once every six months or so...last 3 years i faced 2/3 times...please help...

Hello my name is Precious my heart rate after some dancing in church went up to 149, it was extremely scary. I went to the emergency room they kept me for a while. The heart rate went down on its own. I was scared they did some labs, x-ray, and CT since a d-finer came back elevated it was fine. The blood test for the heart was fine. Idk I’m currently wearing a 4 day monitor. I was having palpitations and PVCs I am so scared since that high heart rate I’ve been feeling them all along. For almost a week.
Right now I am worried about my blood pressure iam75 for the pass two weeks my pressure keek going up and it bothers me thank you for what you are saying
“ Reflux Disease when I was a young boy was a disease of Fat People “ lol! Great Bedside Manners Doc, Your just telling it like it is and I like it. It’s a good thing that I’m okay being called fat. I guess it’s because I know I’m working to solve that problem. I have been dealing with this problem for a while now and I have had a few trips to the hospital for tachycardia. I have had a hiatal hernia for some time now and obviously it has gotten worse. I keep severe heartburn. I do take a medication for the stomach issue but it slows my digestive system down so much. Plus I think it causes other medication to get absorbed very slowly, which generally is not a problem. I shall get in touch with this doctor because I can tell he knows his stuff and he is the first doctor I have heard of even talking about this condition. I was actually introduced to him by another RUclips channel who gave him the credit for the talk and video she had posted but I can’t remember who it was if I think of it, I’ll come back and edit this comment. Thank You Very Much Doctor For Sharing This Information With Us.
Metoprolol saved my head from migraines it worked directly and now second day taking it i feel tired i cant eat i feel like having covid :(
my take is this, if you are guilty of having a bad lifestyle, poor eating habit, no exercise, you will really get nervous when taking your BP. because if happened to me before. i oftenly get 130/90 recently while before, i normally 100/70 -110/70. i got worried for few days that my BP got high. because i was guilty. i eat a lot of carbs everyday. and i had trouble sleeping every night thinking about the consequences of having a hypertension, the risk of dying, or taking maintenance meds until i get old.. then i immediately made a decision that i will change my eating lifestyle. so i switched to low-carb diet.. i avoided eating any kind of rice, pasta, noodles, cake, instant coffee and candies.. then my BP went back to my normal 110/70 . I also walk everyday every morning for 1hr. for me, it’s easier to stop eating the foods that causing me the hypertension than consult the doctor, take synthetic meds and poison my body.
Man you are godsend! I wish, alot more doctors would have such a sensible approach towards treating mild hypertensionm. But most are just following guidelines and prescribing pills for every patient with slightly elevated bp readings and make them lifelong customers.
I am having an echocardiogram tomorrow due to mitral valve regurgitation causing breathlessness and fatigue. I found your video very useful in understanding what is going on in my heart. Many thanks.
At 84 yrs of age I normally have low blood pressure, and am not on any medication, but I had to visit the Dr. the other day for a very minor procedure and my blood pressure shot up to 224/96. Needless to say the procedure has been postponed and on return home my BP dropped to 123/70. Thank you for your excellent explanation.
Excellent explanation. Thank you
Well explained thank you
Thankyou so much for explaneing this so better for me us to understand thankyou
My bp was 252/110 this week i felt great but no more pills just just make me fall over head pain ect no more pills i just have a cold shower or stand in the cold air or put my feet in ice cold water it works for me

I’m mostly ok until I’m in a high heat or exercise situation. Or until the Dr. orders five vials of blood be drawn and I nearly collapse on the floor 😂. I’ve had to become a summer hermit.
